BIKE SAFETY
Riding a bike can be an enjoyable activity, but bike safety is something that you should always keep in mind:

BENEFITS OF BIKING
- Less pollutants: Bikes don't produce gases that will pollute the air. Over 2.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide are produced every second. Cars are responsible for 50% to 90% of that pollution. By switching to bikes, that number can be dramatically reduced.
- It’s cheaper: Bikes don’t require expensive gas to run, like cars do. Furthermore, bikes cost about $200, while cars cost about $33,560. Also, bikes only require functioning brakes, and well oiled chains and gears, and full tires. It is much more cost efficient to use a bike.
- Exercise: Bike riding requires the use of muscles such as quads, hamstrings, and calf muscles while pedaling. Cycling also uses the upper body muscles like abdominal muscles, arm muscles, and muscles of the back for stabilization and support. Bicycling can also burn 650 calories per hour for someone with an average mass of 180 lbs. Bike riding is a great and easy way to stay fit and healthy.
- Safer for wildlife: Over 1 million animals are killed by cars each day. Animals are struck by cars when they are trying to cross roads. Bikes are a much more animal friendly option because they are less likely to kill animals. It easier to avoid animals on a bike without any injuries or fatalities.
- Health: Being outside has been proven to lessen anxiety and reduce depression. The sun is our main supplier of vitamin D, which improves the immune system. Vitamin D has also been shown to help prevent osteoporosis, cancer, and Alzheimer’s. Natural light is healthier for the eye because staring at a screen or being surrounded by artificial light can cause nearsightedness, blurred vision, and headaches. Sunlight can also help reset your sleep cycle, making you feel better rested. Being outside can have major beneficial effects on your psychological and mental health.
